Cross stitch kits from Dimensions can't go wrong in my opinion! I've always been a fan since doing my very first cross stitch project (also the Gold Collection set from Dimensions). I think a beginner can certainly sew these sets if he has the patience and determination. The instructions are very clear to understand and these days you can find video tutorials online all over the web to help you when you are confused. But if you read and follow the instructions and sew your project in the order given in the instructions, I really don't think you will have any problems. Just remember to SEPARATE the 6 layers of embroidery floss, then "reassemble" the layers following the instructions for each individual character! Some characters use only one level, some use two levels, and some can even use four levels! Also, different stitches are used (half cross, full cross, backstitch, french knot) so you really need to look closely at this character chart and note the stitch type listed above AND the number of layers used. for a single character. If you run out of thread (never happened to me with the dimension set!) you can contact the company for any additional thread you may need. I find the shading and back stitching exceptional in these sets. They advise starting in the middle of the drawing to ensure there is enough room around the finished piece for framing. However, just looking at the front of your kit will clearly show you what size your finished design will be. I measure the fabric and subtract the size of the finished design and can easily calculate how much of the fabric's unfinished edge is left. For example, if the design is 16 inches wide and the fabric is 20 inches wide, you know you have FOUR inches left. Split this in half and you'll see that you need 2 inches on each side of your stitch to get centered. (Do the same with the height, of course). So you can just measure 2 inches from the side edge and the top edge and start sewing at the top left corner (I prefer it anyway). But if you're new to cross stitch and are nervous, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS and you'll be fine! The Gold Collection kits might seem a little daunting for beginners, but I seem to prefer the Gold Collection designs over most of the "regular" Dimensions cross stitch kits. It's all a matter of preference. You guys can! This isn't brain surgery. Take your time and have fun and you will be proud of your finished products! And if you get confused, pull out the wrong stitches and sew again! Even experienced seamstresses make mistakes, so don't beat yourself up.
