I learned cross stitch in high school but haven't done a project in over a decade and wanted something that was a fun project for beginners to come back to. While this kit is nice and has almost everything you need to get started, it is NOT suitable for beginners. Maybe I should have read more details, but it's quite a large size, about 9 1/2 inches by 11 inches, you get the point. And there are over 20 different thread colors. I've already spent over 8 hours on this and I expect this entire project to take over 25 hours if not more. Overall I'm happy with it because it's beautiful and my mom would love it as a gift. But if I were a TRUE beginner, this kit would be overwhelming and overly complex.
