I really like this sponge for its qualities that many have hidden, including the ability to absorb a lot of liquid and wipe things well. Here are two unexpected properties I found. 1) You don't need to "sterilize" this informally in the microwave like regular sponges do. It will deform. The half sponge I made still works, but it's a bit smaller (and firmer I think) and doesn't have a fairly straight line shape anymore. (It shows the permanent imprint of the rim of the yogurt container I microwaved it on.) 2) It's more abrasive than I first thought. Scraping the edge of a wood countertop that I had coated myself with a penetrating oil finish roughened the surface a bit and removed some of the paint where I had cleaned most. This has not happened with another countertop that I have coated myself with what I have found to be an excellent penetrating oil finish and probably would not have happened with any commercially used wood furniture finish. Nevertheless, it was an interesting result that deserves attention.
