After I disabled my laptop's Wi-Fi antenna and installed the Realtek drivers and utility software, I had connection issues about 20% of the time. Additionally, the Mbps reported over the internet were either slow or slowed down during testing, averaging just 100 Mbps. I removed the wireless USB adapter, uninstalled the Realtek drivers and utilities, and rebooted. I then reconnected the USB adapter to allow Windows 10 to install the Microsoft-blessed drivers. The network interfaces dialog in Windows 10 shows up to 867 Mbit/s (ie works as intended). However, I see a maximum of 250 Mbit/s with online tools such as Speedtest. I find AT&T's gigabit network to limit my connection when running tests like this, but that's another rabbit hole.
