Don't pay too much for an ATK-rated

When I need new kitchen appliances, I turn to America's Test Kitchen for advice, but I rarely buy exactly what they sell. By the time I see the review every second idiot in the country will see the exact same review and rush to buy that particular thing. The manufacturer (or seller?) will notice this and raise the price much more than at the beginning. Sorry, $45 for a plastic handle and 8 inches is ridiculous (I'm looking straight at you Victorinox knives). What I'm going to do is look for a duplicate with the traits I like from the proposed ATK and take it. I don't need my kitchen utensils for life. I just need it to be good enough for what I'm using it for. This is similar to the sieve offered by ATK, but much cheaper. The material isn't heavy duty or anything, but the handles feel nice and strong and are strong enough for my purposes. I make pasta maybe once a week (if that's the case). If it's spaghetti or something I'll pull them out anyways, I only reach for this guy when I need to drain a pound of pasta or something. They are relatively easy to clean. I use one of those silicone sponges and it goes right in between the holes for a thorough clean. Dries pretty quickly. The pedestal raises it off the bottom of the sink to keep the pasta's water from splashing back. on topic. For the price this is a solid product and worth having in your kitchen.
