This device keeps connecting and disconnecting from the iPad and has basically been down for about a month. I'm not sure if it keeps restarting, but I've tried different USB cables and the like - to no avail. I have a suspicion that the microUSB connector is loose, and possibly the ADSB antenna chip too (I've also had ADSB disconnected a few times). The micro-USB input on the case would probably have to be reworked so that the cable can be plugged in more easily and made more stable. For now, if you try to connect without looking at it, it's a godsend. I have contacted the company and we will see what happens. My conclusion: if you're a weekend warrior (fly every month or two) this might work for you. But if you're going to use it a lot (I fly 400-500 hours a year) I don't know if it can handle the demand. This is an old review: the device works well, the traffic shows. The seller is very responsive which is great. But I can't get any resolution below 10m. The vendor says this might be a ForeFlight limitation, but maybe that's why I often get the "Traffic, 5am, same altitude, <0.25miles" warning. This may or may not be related, but ignoring warnings all the time is probably not a good idea for me. In comparison, the iPad's internal antenna gives me a resolution of 2-3m. Not that much, but I wish "Smart WiFi" worked. I haven't gotten a good explanation of what it does from my inquiries to the seller, but I think it allows you to connect to both the internet and Stratux (conjecture here, I haven't found any documentation on the subject ). This requires going into the Stratux's WiFi and IP address setup (I think) to set it up as a pass-through device. No instructions or guidance from seller on how to do this. Another issue is that the power button on the battery doesn't seem to turn off the Stratux. Shutting down is the only way out. I turned off the power button on the battery pack and put the Stratux in my flight bag to find that it was dead dead because it turned itself on. Maybe that's because the mini-USB connector dangles a bit. I will buy another device (almost double the price of this one :( - but I hope it suits my needs better).

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
