Review on Bodum Bistro Coffee Double Wall Insulated by Mario Beaklini

Revainrating 1 out of 5

*** IF you are buying this to keep your drink hot then this is the WRONG choice. ***

I did this test for myself because I really wanted these mugs to keep tea hotter for longer, but the results were disappointing. I will return the item. I share this for the benefit of others. Two items compared: 1) Porcelain mug (non-insulated) purchased at the Dollar Store. PRICE - $1. Weight of empty cup 325g 2) This glass cup (double insulated) costs $15. - $10 depending on which package you purchase. The weight of the empty cup is 251 g. I poured exactly 300ml (10 oz) of water into the test cup and boiled it in the microwave. The stopwatch was then started when the temperature dropped to 90°C and stopped when it reached 75°C. Each cup has been tested separately. RESULTS--1) 6 min 31 sec 2) 6 min 37 sec So if you're going with this mug to keep your drink hotter longer, skip it! The rest of the review is just more detailed information. ==================================== Given about 4 seconds of error because I was so fast the To start and stop the stopwatch by gently stirring the water while taking photos, both cups worked almost *identically*. REASONS WHY SINGLE WALL WORKS SO WELL, EVEN THOUGH GLASS IS A SLIGHTLY BETTER INSULATOR THAN PORCELAIN: . B) The porcelain mug was heavier (325g) so it retained more heat compared to the glass mug (251g). C) The china mug had a white interior that reflects radiant heat well, so the heat emitted is reflected back into the beverage. Glass is practically colorless and emits light freely to the environment. Since nobody makes a vacuum insulated glass tumbler that's microwavable, the only way to keep your drink hotter longer is to use a stainless steel vacuum insulated tumbler.

Pros
  • Double walls to keep drinks hot or cold longer. Eatable Glass
Cons
  • Little Things
