I haven't had good binoculars since I was a child and I'm not an optician. I can say that I am very satisfied with this purchase. If you have money to spare I don't think you can do better than these for the price. I've read a lot of reviews of the most popular binoculars and here's what made sense to me: - Magnification x lens diameter ratio should be at least 1 in 5 (8x42 is good for this, if you don't use a tripod) magnify a lot, and without great lenses, more magnification means more blur, - weight is an important factor when held for more than a few seconds, - adjustable zoom binoculars (not the most necessary focus setting) will never get as good a bright picture as with disposable binoculars - the quality of the optics is decisive! It sounds strange, but I feel like I'm looking at the world again for the first time. My vision is never as clear and bright as when I look through it. And even 8x magnification is quite significant when the image is very clear. I've read that some other binoculars can leave aberrations like ghosting, but I haven't noticed anything like that with Ultra HD. I have yet to actually use them, but I was immensely impressed just focusing on trees, leaves, hummingbirds, bees, airplanes, stars, and the moon. I just looked at the crescent and it was amazing. Just looking at our dog from the hallway is like seeing him in HD for the first time. I want to watch animals in their natural habitat, walk, run and scream, but I don't want to look like the guy who looks at people through binoculars. So yes, they get five stars.
