That does not work. (UPDATED)

**UPDATE** I've noticed that a Mac Mini with an M1 chip can wake up slowly no matter how it's connected to the display. The machine also tends to shut down and restart in sleep mode. So I think some of the reluctance to change the display on the M1 Mini is due to possible flaws in this new silicon and the interface with the operating system, so maybe the switch itself isn't so much to blame. However, the switch sometimes has trouble connecting to the MacBook Pro, maybe about 20% of the time I have to unplug/replug the cables to get the signal, and generally the time from sleep to wake up takes a bit longer when the Display through the switch works. I bought this KVM switch to make it easy to share a Dell display when switching between the MacBook Pro laptop I use for work and my new Mac Mini (M1). Pressing a button to switch which computer is using the display never works on its own. I need to perform an additional combination of power cycling the display and removing and reconnecting the Thunderbolt cables. The alternative I've used is to connect the Mac Mini to the display with an HDMI cable, connect the MacBook Pro to the display (via a USB hub) with a Thunderbolt cable, and change the source that the monitor accepts. I also had an extra step to manually unplug the USB keyboard from a computer and plug it into an MBP USB hub (mouse plugged into keyboard). While this alternate method "works," I have to navigate a clunky display. buttons and menus, and it's cumbersome to move the USB cable between devices. I was hoping that the convenience of just pressing a button to solve this coordination problem would be worth the (quite high) price tag, but it's not worth it when the problem is just more complex. At least I know what steps to take. Switch display computers before using KVM. However, with KVM, it's a guessing game as to when the computer and monitor will see each other again after power cycling and a few unplug/plug cycles.
