I love this bottle opener gadget
I've used it for corked champagne bottles but haven't tried it when the cork is plastic. It takes a bit of experience, but once you've done it once or twice, opening these bottles will be a lot easier than trying to knock the cork out with your thumbs while covering the top of the bottle with a towel. It's not perfect, but I like it so much I gave it to him.
