It works a little differently, while other closers pull the door very gently at the beginning and then slam it shut in the last 10 inches to make the doorknob work, this closer closes gently to the end and starts tighter but not too heavy. I think I like it so far. The door is then locked. It had a paint defect where a small dot was not colored green. QC should have caught it. If the paint is peeling, this is the place to start. I need to replace three other door closers so I am considering this product. Installation is almost the same as any closer. Optimum closing speed on my door has a very narrow range of adjustment screw ie I could only adjust it 20 degrees but it worked well enough - no problem - just like it did on my door. You have to find your sweet spot through testing. Maybe readjust a few hours later or the next day for fine tuning. It's nice that the company is looking at products in a new way and trying a different approach.
