I bought these to add to my existing 12 volt backyard lighting system. For the price, I doubt they can be beat. Each string has a bushing and a bare end with two wires (super tiny like 18g or 20g) out of the box. I connected the bare end of the cable to the leads on my transformer (which are much larger than 14g) with waterproof nuts. There is a + and - wire clearly marked, so the 12V + wire is connected to the common wire on your transformer. I managed to damage one of the strings a bit when trying to twist them with the correct 8mm clamps - my percussion instrument slipped and punched through the clear rubber enough to kink some of the circuitry underneath/ to break. But the string still works! They're super bright, too. I've attached rope to the bottom of each of the two wide steps on the rear deck, and with no other lights in the yard, there's enough of that to navigate; probably even more than I need. Life will tell, both strings are removed and constantly exposed to the elements. The only star I take away is the color - they are not daylight/blue light, in fact they are a very clean crisp white/white. , but not the "warm white", it would have matched the rest of my lighting fixtures and didn't even come close to matching the color on the box.
