I bought this as a security upgrade for my front door because I never liked that I couldn't see who was on the other side without opening it. At this price you really can't go wrong; It's made in Taiwan, but it's a UL listed solid brass door viewer with GLASS optics from a trusted name. But here's the key: if you're buying peepholes and want to be absolutely sure you're getting glass with glass lenses, make sure the product has the words 'UL Listed' and/or 'Fire Retardant' on it. in description. The door viewer itself is highly polished on both visible surfaces and is attached to your door by screwing the two halves under tension. Installation is a relatively easy project that requires patience and a 9/16-inch drill bit or a drill bit that fits the type of door you're installing it on. So the shovel has proven itself excellently. Find the height that works best for all of your family members and carefully mark the drilling points on BOTH sides of your door. (Or: measure twice, drill once!) Slowly let the drill do its work, and once you have a nice and neat 9/16" hole, repeat the process on the other side. Clean the hole of debris, place a small bead of silicone on the inside edge of the outer piece and gently screw both halves together until snug. You can also add some Blue Loc-Tite to the threads if you like. Fold as needed, THEN tighten with a coin until it stops. I have a small porch, but almost nothing escapes the viewer. I can even see the awning upstairs or check for packages on the doorstep just by turning my head a little. Although the view is admittedly quite lazy, I can still see well-parked cars and passers-by with my glasses even at night. I'm also pleased that my porch lights don't affect the image quality in the slightest. Like I said, $20 gives you a hell of a lot of peace of mind and I'm sure you can use it for life.
