Apparently. Direct OEM replacement

After reviewing a range of marine accessories and looking at prices everywhere I checked out the Revain and found this shifter which was almost identical to the old shifter on my 1996 Evinrude 8hp 2 cylinder outboard . I was most concerned about the mount, and luckily this shifter fit almost perfectly into the sculpted hole on the tiller. The switch comes with a threaded neck and large nut and apparently there is a commercial standard for these switches that has been around for at least 15 years. The electrical connection is not difficult. Well, you need to understand which side of the ignition system you are connecting to and whether your switch was "normally open" or "normally closed" while the engine was running. You have a choice of normally open or normally closed for some reason. The switch offers these two options depending on whether your engine has the ignition close (normally opens when the switch is not pressed) or is connected to the "live side" of the coil and when pressed opens the circuit (normally closed) . when the switch is not pressed). If it's confusing, find a neighbor who works as a radio amateur, electrical engineer, or auto mechanic. An easy way to check the wiring is to disconnect the two bare ends of the wire that were connected to the old switch. Don't let the wires touch or anything else. Try to start the engine. When it starts, connect the two wires together. When the engine is stopped, two "closers" must be connected. If the engine won't start with the wires disconnected, torque them together, preferably with an electric nut, so they don't touch anything on the engine. Try to start the engine. When it starts, you need to use the two terminals on the switch that are "normally closed". So the two best things about this switch are the price and the fact that it seems to fit most engines where you've had a similar switch. Again, the size of the switch and the outside diameter of the mounting rod must conform to some commercial industry standard. Good for us!
