Awesome hub - bad cable

I really like this USB 3.0 hub. Most USB 3.0 hubs feel like cheap junk, but this one with a metal body has a good, solid quality, look, and feel. Apart from the fact that the USB 3.0 cable is defective when delivered, I can only warmly recommend this product. Below is my review of the StarTech USB 3.0 HDD Docking Station model: SATDOCKU3SEF that mentions THIS hub. Both had bad cables and it's easier to paste my other review below than to type it again. Below basically says that if you think your USB 3.0 device is dead, try another cable that you know is good! _____________________________ I recently purchased 5 of these cables for work (StarTech USB 3.0 Hard Drive Dock, model: SATDOCKU3SEF). Sometimes I have to use docks for forensic applications and the disks are being read/written all day. With regular docks, the hard drive gets hot enough to fry an egg, but the fan on this dock is amazing and the drives just get hot. I thought one of them was defective, but after a bit of troubleshooting I found that the USB 3.0 cable was defective. I have about 10 different USB 3.0 devices and three of them came with defective cables. The other two were the StarTech Industrial 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub (ST4300USBM) and the Vantec Nexstar HDD Docking Station. I returned the first Vantec dock that did the same and it was most likely the cable. With the Vantec HDD docking station, I thought something was wrong with one of the USB3 ports on my laptop, which was the only computer I had. used it with. This item has always been said to run faster if you plug it into a USB3 port and I've had constant disconnects (same issue with my first one). After realizing I had bad cables with the Startech dock and hub, I tried a new cable on the Vantec hard drive dock and found the cable was bad too. I read many reviews where the USB3 elements were dead. Arrived and I'd bet some if not most of these items had bad cables. I would like to know if the same manufacturer supplies these cables to different companies. I needed all of these items to get it working ASAP so I just went out and bought new cables which were about $5 each made by Bergtek and they worked great. So if you buy a USB 3.0 dock, hub, etc. from ANY manufacturer and it doesn't work or doesn't work properly, try a different cable if you have one!
