If I could I would give it a NEGATIVE 5 star rating. metal in my food! Stay away from this product. I figured with Foley's name being associated with him, that must be okay. Having used it once, I now think that Mr. or Ms. Foley would have thrown themselves in their graves after finding out their name was on this product. He arrived pretty much on time. I just picked a couple bushels of apples from a tree in the yard, got tin cans ready and a tin can to make applesauce. When unpacking the meat grinder, I noticed that there were no instructions. No big deal, I've used a similar meat grinder before so it was easy to figure out. Thoroughly washed in hot water, dried and collected. I loaded it with about 4 cups of cooked apple slices, started turning the crank to push the apples through the grinder, then stopped after a few crank turns to check how it looked in the pot that the sauce was pouring went. "What the?" My applesauce had black "streaks" down the middle of the pot! Destroyed, I thought. There was no oil or grease anywhere in the mill so it couldn't be! Looking closer, I saw that the black liquid dripping into my applesauce was crushed metal coming from where the mill press rod rotates through the sieve spindle (see picture). Grrrrrr! I emptied the pan, washed everything, looked again at the axle and rod and saw where the metal had worn away. Then I also noticed that there was a metal tab in one of the many holes in the sieve where the sauce is pressed. It was only partially knocked out when it was made and hung there ready to be thrown in my food to swallow later (see picture). I thought I would contact Mirro or Fowley directly but not only were there no instructions and no guarantees. There was no phone number on the box it came in either. Isn't it great for the consumer! However, the packaging clearly says "Made in China". I called Revain to get a return they provided, packed the food factory and shipped it back. Luckily I didn't ruin most of the sauce. I'm definitely glad I checked out the sauce beforehand. As for passing through dried apples, the grinder didn't work as well - worse than I expected. large wooden spoon. In about 20 minutes I had 3 gallons of great sauce. There might be a great Foley Food Factory out there somewhere, but this is definitely not one of them.
