These straws were purchased to replace the stainless steel straws which came in an insulating cup. Steel had some advantages, but they were less pleasant to use. I like these silicones much more. Silicone straws are also much safer. I had to replace my insulating glass because I knocked it off the table and it fell head first onto the floor on the end of a stainless steel straw which blasted a hole in the inner bowl of the glass. This would not happen with softer silicone straws. They are long (12 inches) so they fit all glasses and can easily be shortened (unlike stainless steel glasses) depending on the situation/preference. So far these silicone straws have been exactly what I wanted.
