So I'd suggest you holding onto both parts while the other person puts a little bit of ashes into it. There is only enough to put a very, very little amount. If you don't want all 3 pieces on the chain, you can easily remove them. It is very hard to read the words on the heart. It would have been nice to have a card included in the packaging with the quote, so you aren't wondering what the heart says if you personally didn't purchase this item for yourself. The locket does get fingerprints on it easily, but it includes a cloth to wipe the prints away. The heart locket seems secure. If for any reason it does not hold up, I will update my review.
