READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. You must charge this sharpener 24 hours before first use. It's slightly charged when it's sent to you, but not enough to open the can. However, once fully charged, this thing can open a bank vault (just kidding). He seems to be in the perfect mood. Once the lever is pushed, you'll hear the engine revs decrease to pierce the can. It then cuts back around the can very quickly and stops automatically at the end of the cut. Then simply lift the lever and pull the opener. The lid sticks to the attached magnet. This device cuts the inside of the jar neck so the lid fits inside the jar for easy draining of liquids. It forms a wavy pattern on the edge of the lid, making the edge less sharp than a flat cut. The pole detaches from the base for easy cleaning. The base stands on its two legs when not in use. I like the gadget. It's a pleasure to use, it's rechargeable and they claim it can be used with any size can. I charged it the day after Christmas (within 24 hours) and as of 01/10/2020 I still haven't had to charge it. I think my family probably opens an average number of cans per week just like any other family. It's a workhorse! I will update if anything out of the ordinary happens.
