i love mixmasters - no wait; I loved Mixmasters. They have always been so easy to use. You can stick a spatula in the bowl to scrape the sides while the blender is running (unlike some other stand mixers). You can easily add ingredients to the bowl while the blender is running (unlike some other stand mixers). Blenders don't tend to spill ingredients all over the place as those ingredients are added (unlike, you know). I also don't tend to get batter on my hands like when trying to maneuver around a giant paddle. work just as well. Better in some ways. I love that it automatically clicks on and off (no more beaters I just cleaned falling back into the batter; no more mixer jumping around when butter is too cold to beat anymore). I love that it now comes with whisk attachments. However, when using this blender, I noticed that it takes much longer to mix the ingredients. For example, eggs that are added to butter and sugar just sit on the bottom of the bowl and go nowhere. I found I had to turn the bowl back and forth several times to mix the ingredients. Then I noticed that the dough tends to gather and stay in smooth cylinders in the center of the beaters. I have to keep stopping the blender to squeeze it out. And then I understood. The waves that used to go through the rims no longer exist. Serious? These waves are an essential part of a good blender. They help the dough move so the ingredients mix quickly and thoroughly. Whose incredibly brilliant idea was this? Has the company tried to save money by shortening the shaft? Did he think nobody would notice? These beaters make the blender almost useless, especially since it's seemingly impossible to buy replacement full-shaft beaters. It's good if you have a full day to wait for your batter to start mixing. Not me. And while gluten-free flour isn't a problem, over-mixing wheat flour becomes a big problem, as does a recipe that requires very little mixing. On the other hand, the sides of the glass bowls that come with this blender are much taller than my old blender. They are also thicker and much heavier. Because of the weight, it's difficult to hold even a smaller bowl with one hand when scooping the batter into the pan (unless you're a serious weightlifter, of course). Luckily my old bowls fit in this blender so I use them. Also, the part that the bowls stand on doesn't come off, making it difficult to clean it or underneath. I've always said you can't pay me for a brand of stand mixer that's so incredibly popular, but I might doubt it. (At least the ingredients in this mix mix easily, which means the ones left in the bowl will.) I'm so disappointed in Sunbeam/Oster/Newell/whatever they are now.
