Economic thread repair kits

Excellent for stripped motorcycle engine spark plug threads. The only problem was finding a half inch bit/drive bit, but once I did it was easy. Make sure you get the right size kit, my bike's fittings are M12 1.25 and it was just what I needed.

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Minor problems

better than expected

Didn't think it was that good as it's half the price of a coiled coil and has bad reviews. To my surprise, they are well preserved in aluminum and steel. The drill and tap are notoriously lower quality than what comes with the spiral wire. I end up using my own better quality drill bit and taking my time when cutting the hole.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Available in white only.

Heli-Coil is not good for tools and equipment

I bought this because I needed to fix a thread and couldn't justify the cost of a real $60+ heli-coil kit. This kit uses an all-in-one installation tool that is less than ideal in diameter. So if you are not very careful the insert will jump over the threads and become unusable. I destroyed three stakes before I got a usable rig. It will do the job but you have to be very careful when installing the inserts...

This kit is crap. best in tools and equipment

Defective Threaded Inserts. When I tried to install they skipped threads. Tried several missions. I even turned the faucet several times thinking it might be a burr. The only reason I ordered them was because an ORIGINAL screw coil repair kit was out of stock. Big mistake. Now I wasted two hours of my time and I still have to wait a week for a helicoil kit. By the way, I worked as a locksmith/mechanic for over twenty years. I've installed hundreds of helicoils. This kit is crap.

The drill is junk.

This thread repair kit fits the m12x1.25 hole I needed to repair. The supplied drill is scrap, the cutting edge is serrated and blunt. Don't worry, I ordered another 31/64 bit version from Irwin and it worked great. I can't complain about the rest of the set. I was able to tap new threads and install the insert with no problem. I didn't use her punch to break the tab on the insert, instead I used fine jawed pliers and broke them pretty well. Overall good value for money.

Pros
  • 1 year trial period
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Works as expected, the drill bit is a bit oversized.

Probably good value for money, but there are a few quirks. First, the included drill bit is larger than the recommended size of 31/64" for a 12mm bobbin spool. I opted for the 31/64" drill bit I had. and the tap was easy to cut so I'm glad I didn't just use what was included. Secondly, installing the coiled coil itself with the included installation tool is a little tricky compared to the big brand 'real' option. But with a little patience, it's not that bad. The end result is as good as any…

Excellent value for money

I would like to say that my first mistake was not knowing how brittle aluminum threads are. So I stripped the threads on the engine mount block. I used a torque wrench. Mistake #2, not giving enough time tightened the screw and now I needed a new screw. After finding a new screw and learning from my two mistakes. I was able to insert two helical coils for motor mounts. The included drill worked at first. Clear the room of debris. Second, make several passes with the tap. Third, use lubricant to

Saved me a ton of money going to the store

used it to install an M12x1.25mm bolt in the spool, drilled a hole with a slightly larger drill bit, cut new threads with plenty of WD40 and a 10mm open ended wrench (used with an open end) and finally the installation of the coil. There was difficulty installing inserts, but I put that down to being a beginner. The last spool has done its job by using up all the spools, oh what a stroke of luck. Put the subframe on the car and successfully inserted the screw. Now the machine is functional…

Great value for money

My first mistake was not realizing how brittle aluminum threads are. I stripped the threads of the engine mount block. I used a torque wrench and installed safety goggles but still. Error #2 doesn't leave enough time to install coil and screw and now I need a new screw. After finding a new screw and learning from my two mistakes.
