I love the idea of a glass top kettle, but this one has so many uses, honestly. I'm tired and need coffee - STAT! You need to heat the kettle on medium for the water to heat up in about 20 minutes. The whistle is very quiet and they want you to take it off the stove and remove the lid immediately, which means you're standing around waiting for the water to boil because there's nothing else you can do - you won't hear it whistle . I've had my first for a little over 6 years (I drink tea several times a day so that's enough) until this morning I stupidly swung the pot of oatmeal the wrong way and took a piece of the rim! Unfortunately I killed my favorite boiler. While I love my new granite countertops, they are NOT gentle on glass teapots. So, your obedient servant broke her favorite glass teapot today. I'm so sad. This type of kettle has been my favorite for over twenty years. I was just buying my third when I dropped it while washing and broke my lip. Otherwise, it's fairly durable and very easy to clean with hot water and a non-scratch sponge. I think it's great that the glass comes from Germany and is assembled here in the USA.
