Why did they downsize the cargo pockets?

I bought these shorts thinking they were just like great pants except they were just shorts. Am I wrong? If you don't need to use the cargo pockets these would be great shorts but the cargo pockets are a big part of what I need them for! As you can see from the photos they have reduced the cargo pockets by 3/4" to 1" to save a useless trick pocket! I can't even put my wallet or phone in it. These cargo pockets are so small they are useless to me. And if the cargo pockets are useless to me, then

I recommend increasing the size to solve this problem when .

These shorts are well made. The crotch is pleated so you don't have to worry about breaking when you crouch or bend down. My shorts are above the knee, I'm 6 feet tall. All pockets are usable, some of the shorts I tried are too tight around the hips making some pockets unusable. I recommend increasing the size to solve this problem if you have the same problem with other brands. The stretch at the waist is functional, but I don't recommend using this feature as an excuse to try sizing down, see

They've downsized the pockets!

Every spring I buy these shorts. They last for years, I just like to have a few on rotation. They were always the same, which allowed me to put together the perfect kit for summer everyday use. Well, this year's proposal is a big mistake. The cargo pockets are about 5mm narrower than the models from back then, so my backup gun no longer fits in a cargo holster. To make matters worse, this year the front left pouch is significantly smaller and won't fit in my primary gun's spare magazine. Evenโ€ฆ

Glad I tried them on

Bought a pair of pants at the grand opening of a local sporting goods store last summer. I'm glad I tried them on, got a size bigger than I normally wear. When hiking and climbing in the Rocky Mountains, I don't want them to be tight around my waist. I ordered these shorts right away, one size bigger, perfect! The bags are awesome and the material is heavy, not the coolest I've worn but will hold up like iron for years to come. Well worth the $$$. Update - took off my trousers and shorts andโ€ฆ

Sturdy shorts but a bit tight.

The shorts are clearly well made. The material feels stiff and there are unnecessary sewing issues. The water beads up pretty easily, which is another good point. The shorts have a lot of deep comfortable pockets, which for me is one of the main advantages. I have a small complaint and these shorts are a bit tight. Not only are they a little tight in the waist, which is surprising given the elasticated waist, the shorts are also fairly tight in the hips. This restricts my freedom of movementโ€ฆ

My favorite shorts!

These 5.11 TacLite shorts have become my favorite shorts. They are comfortable, lightweight, yet durable. How strong? I was walking past a bureau in our dining room and hit the drawer handle, the fold in the TacLite bags caught the edge of the drawer handle and pulled it out of the drawer! Another example is that I mainly use them for work shorts and wear some Liquid Nails on them. They went through the wash leaving the glue firmly in place so I used a wire brush on the fabric to clean the glue

Pros
  • Ideal for a small house
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

I think I found my new pants

I'm not a cop. I'm only looking for shorts that aren't junk. I've been wearing REI Sahara Cargo Shorts for years (I mean years). I have 12 couples, some are 15 years old. Most of them are really worn out and need to be replaced. Of course, REI changed their Sahara shorts, using cheaper materials and terrible cuts. So when I was looking for a suitable replacement, I came across the 5.11 shorts. I just received them today, so here's my first impression: they fit well. I'm 5'10" and they come just

Not suitable for tall or wide-legged people.

I've had a lot of pants like this and I've liked all of them. I decided I liked them enough to try the shorts on, but I never tried them on before buying, I assumed it was just a cropped version of the pants and I was almost right. . The cut is the same as the pants but I have two complaints about them. 1. My average height is 6'4" with a 36" inseam and the legs of these shorts are a bit short for my liking and because of the shorter legs the cargo pockets are not as deep as the pants andโ€ฆ
