Previously had a wood seat that made the heavy 'thunk' when it closed. Then the other bathroom got a Toto toilet that came with a soft close (safety close) seat, and I thought that was so much better. But that seat shifts when sat on, it's overly sculpted inwards so kids feel like they are falling in, and the lid was such a flimsy thin plastic that even the kids can't sit on it.This seat is the perfect in-between: Has the soft / safety close hinge, doesn't shift when sat on, not overly sculpted

I needed a replacement cause the paint chipped on the old one when cleaning it. I think everyone should have this in their home since you will never hear a dropped seat again if you have this, I got the slow close seat. Also it looks like thick plastic but it says it is wood. that has a firm foam core with a durable plastic (probably something much more durable than plastic, just NOT SURE exactly what the material is called) but it is not one of those cheap molded wood ones that expand and contort, once the plastic coating gets chipped and water starts to enter the MDF {medium density fiberboard material} that its made from. Those style seats used to crack very easily as well due to a little rough handling (lid banging down on the seat, etc,) and made them unusable…

For an enameled wood seat this one is much lighter and feels lower quality than others I've bought before. The hardware they sent with it flimsy plastic and given it has sloted screw wholes and that you can't tighten the flimsy plastic bolt and nut that hard the seat has ended up sliding back and forth on me. I usually wait a few months to review something but just wanted to share a quick post-installation issue. Installation was straight-forward but the hinge covers (the ones that cosmetically cover the bolts) do not stay closed. I'm trying to make it a tighter fit by jamming some plastic in the clip holes. If that doesn't do the trick, plumber's putty is probably next. Just something to consider if you buy this.

Doesn't wiggle or feel flimsy. Thanks for attention. Well worth the extra cost above slightly lower cost competitors made of thin plastic.

This is a well made product. Solid, heavy (inspires trust when you use it :) )size fits perfect and installation is easy.

Really easily installed. Also paired with bidet. Luckily chose the right color since I wasn't sure. Will be buying again when a replacement is needed
