I needed a replacement cause the paint chipped on the old one when cleaning it. I think everyone should have this in their home since you will never hear a dropped seat again if you have this, I got the slow close seat. Also it looks like thick plastic but it says it is wood. I do not think this one will crack while cleaning it. The quality of this product is very good. I am going to replace the other toilet seats in my home after purchasing this one since I do not think I will every have to replace them again and it is easier to clean than the old one.
