Works great when it works.

Works great when it works. I've bought 4 of these over the years and out of 4 only 2 worked right away. One of the failed components delivers only the maximum voltage (it seems that the potentiometer failed in this position), the other does not pass any voltage at all. The two who work have been working for some time.

does not regulate the speed.

I bought a 12V DC geared motor for speed control. It doesn't regulate the speed at all. Turning the pot does nothing. When I opened the box, it smelled like burnt electronics. not a good sign. There are no instructions so I can't know if I'm doing something wrong. There is a 3-position switch whose function is completely incomprehensible. Is there a brake position but no brake exit?

Clearly made from remanufactured components

Ok, I don't know what I would expect from such a power controller for so little money, but the components used have been significantly revised. There is old silicone glue on the lids and small dents on the sleeves. One is already a bit dusty! At the heart of the circuit is the 555 timer, which is a good game when it works, but a little surprising. The SB10150CT provides adequate transient protection for driving inductive loads. Switching seems to be done by two or three D4184s with a maximum…
