🔧 Piston Ring Compressor KIT69: Efficient Tool for Easy Piston Maintenance Review

Worked great. Replaced the rear jug on my Harley and needed a ring compressor that fits under the jug and is easy to remove. That was it.

Compression rings need to be cleaned before use, this will scratch the pistons or crack the ring on a smaller engine if you do not clean and polish the compression ring surface. Overall it looks like a well made product but you have to be careful and inspect each ring before use.

Used on my KTM 520 RFS engine. This is a 97mm piston. You can put the piston on the rod and then install the cylinder. There is enough room to pull it out once the rings are in. This way you don't have to put the piston in the cylinder first and then in the rod. This will work with almost anything from above as long as the piston diameter isn't too far above the maximum ring size.

I had this exact tool many years ago and repaired the top of the bucket with no problems. This is the right tool for Harley. I sold mine many years ago and ordered a new one. This is exactly the same tool I had. A small amount of white fat will help set the jug on the new cob. It's one man's work with this instrument. This is a good price. Old certified biker tool.

Thick bands are not beveled at the top and won't loosen around the piston (too hard and wide) (do you really have to squeeze all three rings at once?) thin bands would allow for removal, ratchet play, have geese Micro teeth but it doesn't grip under power so you still have to push and hold with your hand. I bought this type of tool to save time doing cramped work on a marine generator. It would work if those issues were resolved

Bought to replace a previous one that someone borrowed and didn't return when I was replacing the pistons on my 91 FLH. If you are thinking of doing the same, don't do it, it will NOT work. Works well on an older Scoop or a Harley that doesn't have spikes coming out of the bodies that go over the heads. The hooks into which the band tongs are inserted do not clear the pins, making removal impossible when the jug is over the rings. Works great on my iron head but does not work with EVO, Twin Cam

I bought this product to assemble an engine I'm working on for a client. I struggled with this tool as it was too thick to properly compress the wear rings. I finally got the piston and looked inside the cylinder only to notice a large dent in the piston skirt. After inspecting the gauge ring, I could see a small burr on the ring that caused the gauge to land on the piston skirt. Correct part, arrived quickly, they seem better than most offshore units. I used this ring compressor to install piston rings and cylinders on a 2007 Buell. XB12 (same as HD Sportster engine, almost every V-Twin).
