This listing is misleading. The layered oyster shell that the hens love is shown in the picture as an example but you will receive an 8x11 pack of oyster shell chunks similar to the Manna Pro nuggets that TSC sells which the hens hate but THOSE chunks are too big for them even swallow chickens. This is a scam listing with an overpriced and misleading photo. Attention poultry breeders and poultry farmers!

These are real crushed shells not processed like some that can be bought as chicken feed. This allows them to retain their somewhat sharp edges, which are not very popular with burrowing rodents. Plant tulip bulbs with it and stick a handful in a chipmunk hole before stepping on it or placing a rock to close it. It's not a 100% solution to get rid of pesky garden rodents, but they won't use that hole again. I love this hard to find product!

This product was advertised with a picture of oyster shell flakes that chickens love. When I first bought this, a cereal bag arrived as shown in the photo. (They seem to have now replaced the misleading photos.) When I bought the second time, they sent a package with huge round pieces of white that hate chickens. I contacted the seller to ask if they could substitute it with the cereal shown in the photos. There was no answer. Very insincere and rude to boot. Not good for chickens.

In spring I add oyster shells to wild bird feeders. How Birds Think About Their Favorite Food; the rest of the contents fall to the ground. This includes this calcium, which helps with strong eggshells. More birds feed on fallen things than feeders. Quail, Junko and other large birds always feed off the ground and will take whatever falls off the feeders. Many of the birds are finches and other small birds that oversize these oyster chips without pecking them into small pieces.
