Connect Raspberry Pi TX / RX on GPIO header to a DB9M RS232 Serial port. Level shifter serial transmit (TX) and receive (RX) TTL level from the Pi to RS232 standard communication signals up to +- 25V. Includes a PCBA and Pin Header cable for connecting with Pi GPIO. Ideal to connect serial communication RS232 peripherals, industrial equipment (such as PLCs), serial console ports and special purpose equipment. Supports baud rate up to 230 Kbps; Supports VCC input 2.7V ~ 5.25V. CE, FCC, and Fully RoHS compliant. High quality product. Made in Taiwan.

It is the best solution to convert/invert serial/RS232 signals to TTL.

I am using this serial expansion board to get the Serial/RS232 signal from the ultrasonic sensor to the TX/RX pins on the Raspberry Pi which requires TTL instead of RS232. Works like clockwork. I simply placed two jumpers (from the ultrasonic sensor) on pins 2 and 5 of the DB9 connector on this board (see attached image) and connected the supplied jumpers to the Pi. No other changes were required. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
