Worked fine! on Hand Tools

When I first looked at it, I thought it was quite fragile. Although the feeling never really went away, I appreciated how well they worked. They worked very well.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Very expensive

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Inexpensive piston ring pliers

Fits what I need; Installing my new JE FSR pistons with Molnar I-Beam 4340 connecting rods for my E46 M3 S54 engine. Please note that I have low tension rings that may respond differently to this tool than regular thick rings. This tool is a must when doing a complete engine overhaul with new pistons and connecting rods!

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Almost OK

Revainrating 1 out of 5

will not work on thin heavy duty rings without modification

This tool was useless until I clamped it in a vise and squeezed the end pieces enough to actually hold the ring. But even after this "correction" the tooling was marginal and I did what I always do and set the rings by hand. In my opinion this is rubbish.

Pros
  • hands free
Cons
  • good but not great

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Initial Setup Required

As other reviewers have noted, out of the box these pliers will not work properly unless you have thick enough piston rings. You just have to connect the ends together and it doesn't matter, but it's a weird design flaw/quality control issue. For the price I would buy them again, but it's hard to see why that's even a problem.

  • Handy Item
