Edit: Meter is unstable after 2 months of use

Edit: Received this in May 2019 but became unstable in August 2019. An attempt was made to calibrate with packages enabled, but the meter did not show the correct PH calibration. I tried rinsing the flow meter sensor area with tap water but the readings were still erratic. The counter doesn't go until 4:00 p.m. at the start. It's unreliable. Now I use PH strips. The meter was used to test the hydroponic solution. You get 4 packs of calibration solution but I didn't calibrate, just tested with…

Pros
  • Portable for general use
Cons
  • No instructions

PH meter won't calibrate

EC meter "looked good" but then I tried to calibrate the PH meter, written instructions are not something you can do can follow. The image in the ad shows a different procedure. I burned a gallon of PH 7 water previously tested on an expensive setup. The instrument finds the PH of the test solution, but when you put it back into the same solution, you get a completely different number, and in a few seconds it fluctuates as an integer from 6.86 to 7.5, the same for other solutions . I almost killed $2,000 worth of fish!

I just bought and calibrated it. I thought my pond water was high at 8.57 but we had fluctuations in our tap water so I wanted to bring it down a bit with acid. Instead I decided to check the calibration to check their pH and it was 8.76 so I tested the tap water and it was pretty much the same! So I mistook the 6.86 calibration solution for the calibration, but it kept flashing until 9.18! I messed up the 4.01 and it worked fine, but then I messed up the 9.18 solution and nothing else…
