Everything mentioned in the more negative reviews materialized, plus some. The mechanisms that hold the pin sensors don't move smoothly or move at all. It takes some work to get them to retract when you need to replace the sensor. Not suitable for our purposes. Even after turning them by hand, they still didn't hold the pins securely enough that they wouldn't be pulled out by the pieces of wood we measured. In fact, I was able to grab the ends of the pins and pull them out with little effort. I suppose we could turn them with wrenches but the jaws didn't look like they would take much pressure before breaking so I returned them.
