I love this clay: Clays & Doughs

I love this clay. Works well with aluminum foil armor. I didn't notice much shrinkage at all or the horrible tearing or crumbling that others have mentioned. I've found that you can't just work clay straight out of a bag and expect it to dry well: lots of water needs to be mixed in as you work and rubbed with water one last time before letting it dry. to keep him happy. Finally, all of my finished products were strong and durable; no thin tone here!

Pros
  • The delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Does not fit everyone

Not as good as Paperclay gone!

I've been using Paperclay for many years but decided to give it a try because of the lower price. I'm an artist who makes molds for liquid latex and also sculpts faces for dolls that I make myself. This clay dries too quickly even for small projects. You must constantly moisten it as you work, otherwise it will dry out before you can even start shaping. It also tends to shrink and crack during curing. If you don't use release agents, you may forget to remove the latex from the molds without…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • unreliable

We made a great white shark model and let it dry.

I read the reviews and wasn't sure about some. I still decided to buy the modeling clay because I needed it as soon as possible for my son's school project. Delivery was ordered quickly on Wednesday and received on Friday, the quality was ok. We built a model of the great white shark and let it dry from Friday. The next day we woke up to find cracks and it seemed like the clay had settled. I left the clay and patched the cracks. Saturday afternoon we had the same problem again. I fixed it and…

Pros
  • Does not crumble after drying, can be cut, sanded and drilled when hardened; dry in the oven if desired, suitable for almost all surfaces

HOW TO PREVENT CRACKS

I started this project with no toning experience. This product was recommended online so I decided to give it a try. I ran into a pretty powerful hack and it took me a few tries to figure out I was doing something wrong. There were no instructions, so I went to the manufacturer's website. The website stated that 1/4 inch thick clay takes 24 hours to dry. I was very confused with how mine dried in 5-6 hours. After watching some YouTube videos about clay air drying, the cracking is due to the…

Pros
  • High-quality, self-hardening, air-drying clay with exceptional ductility; Extra fine grain for superior detailing and versatility

Cracked and Shrunk

I wanted to let the clay air dry to create a sort of "top" around the fossilized tooth pendant, which I didn't want to bake in the oven (I'm worried about the heat discolor or possibly crack). Since I had a lot left over I decided to also use it to fill in the rough gray outer part of the small geode I have that was missing large chunks. I've tried them all. I tried to wet the clay one last time before letting it dry and covered it with a plastic bag to keep it from drying out too quickly…
