The strip is probably very good. I burned out most of the LEDs.

The strip is probably really great. I blew most of the LEDs when I first connected it to a Raspberry Pi 3. It's a great out-of-the-box strip for some microcontrollers, but make sure you get all the extra parts that Adafruit recommends on their website if you're going to be using a Raspberry Pi 3.

Pros
  • Seasonal Lighting
Cons
  • I don't remember

Unknown chip specification - Seasonal Décor

Difficult to plan in advance for integration with other components. Because this product does not use a single specific chip specification. Users are told to expect a random LED strip among the WS2812b and SK6812, which have wildly different voltage limits. If you plan for the wrong minimum or maximum voltage levels for the rest of your project, the LED strip will either not turn on or, worse, will be damaged. Not to mention that the production documentation often says contradicting things…

Pros
  • Works with Arduino Uno, Mega, Raspberry Pi and Beagle Bone Black microcontrollers. (not included)
Cons
  • Concise instructions

Very cool DIY product

The product works as advertised. I had some concerns because I saw some comments about people having trouble getting it to work on a Raspberry Pi, but for me it worked like a champ. The instructions on the Adafruit website are very clear and include some code examples. A very simple programming interface is Python. I would recommend that you purchase a level converter IC like "74AHCT125" when ordering if you use it on RPi, as the product is really designed to work with 5V boards and RPi is 3.3V

Pros
  • Available with white or black flexible tape and 1, 2, 4 or 5 meters long.
Cons
  • Not sure
