Description of ๐Ÿ”Œ Enhance Raspberry Pi with Adafruit DC & Stepper Motor HAT โ€“ Mini Kit for Powerful Motor Control

4 H-Bridges: TB6612 chipset provides 1.2A per bridge (3A peak) with thermal shutdown protection, internal kickback protection diodes. Can run motors on 4.5VDC to 13.5VDC. Up to 4 bi-directional DC motors with individual 8-bit speed selection (so, about 0.5% resolution). Up to 2 stepper motors (unipolar or bipolar) with single coil, double coil, interleaved or micro-stepping. Works best with Raspberry Pi model A+, B+, or Pi 2. Requires soldering of header pins

Great features for computers and accessories

Revane, why do you need to know what my "Warm" rating is. I'm guessing their AI saw "hat" in the description and thought it was the hat you're wearing on your head (HAHA). Works perfectly. Suitable for Raspberry PI 3 and 4 without any problems. I used it to control individual motors without any problems. However, I did not use it to control stepper motors.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • I'm pissed off

DO NOT use on high power engines. Assure yourself .

DO NOT use on large engines. MAKE SURE you understand the current thresholds for your motors. We ended up burning our hat (real smoke and all). The product says "4.5V to 13.5V DC Motors". Make sure your current is less than 3A, otherwise you will see the same smoke as us. We used 12v motors and this thing ran a total of 10 seconds before every bridge blew.

Pros
  • Fits many
Cons
  • Compatibility

An excellent product for a robotic all-terrain vehicle.

I am using this HAT motor to power two DC motors on a Kookye tanker. My app is for time lapse and video so I needed a PWM motor controller using a Raspberry Pi 3. The controller works as described and the Adafruit software library does a great job in Python. I like the fact that the controller is separate from the Python code so the code can do something else when the motors are commanded.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Good product but some problems

I am usually very satisfied with Adafruit products. I think this product needs some work. I've used it to control a number of DC motors. Even after making sure I had the right power requirements, I couldn't get my DC motors to run slower than about a third of their maximum throttle RPM. Of course this product has its uses and I was able to solve my problem by interacting with the gears, but be aware that this hat will not work if you are looking for slower running DC motors.

Pros
  • Good workmanship
Cons
  • Expensive

Advantages: 1. Many configuration possibilities: a) 4 bidirectional DC motors with very precise PWM speed control. b) Simultaneous control capabilities for DC motor and stepper motor (e.g. 2 bidirectional DC motors and 1 stepper motor).2. Good quality board/components and easy assembly. Cons: 1. The only downside I've encountered is that only the Python driver library is available. It would be nice if there was a NodeJS, library or C source that doesn't depend on Python, there is enoughโ€ฆ

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Communication with seller

Works great but missing parts arrived.

Being brand new to the Pis I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to get this to work, but it was pretty easy to get started. Soldering the connector and terminal blocks required a thin-tipped soldering iron, but wasn't difficult. The instructions and examples from the Adafruit website were very easy to follow and I've had DC motors and stepper motors that worked right out of the box with no issues. The only reason I took off two stars was because one of the two terminal blocks was missingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Dope ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Cons
  • Wrinkled Pack

Super easy to use with minimal programming experience.

First off, let me say that I have very little programming or coding experience on any computer, let alone a small electronic board like the Adafruit DC & Stepper Motor HAT. I bought this and a Raspberry Pi not knowing how any of these work to build my own powered longboard and it's been a great experience so far. Adafruit has a website where you can download the open-source code to make learning Python commands easier, which has become a great tool for learning programming. If you like crafting

Pros
  • Great Design
Cons
  • Fragility

Excellent universal motor driver

After a little soldering, this board is easy to install and use. The best thing about Adafruit is probably the tutorials and software packages they provide. I have never used Python and was able to move my new stepper motor within an hour which is amazing. The board is extremely flexible, allowing easy connection of up to 4 independent DC motors or two stepper motors (or one stepper motor and 2 DC motors etc.). Breadboard space and power rails are also very useful. However, I gave it one starโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Can I add something?
