It was broken. in total

The collar holding the pencil has broken off the shaft. The solder joint did not survive. I think it will be less of a hassle to fix it yourself than trying to return it.

The best carpenter's compass I've ever had.

This is a powerful and well designed compass/divider. I would not recommend it for desktop work. It is an excellent carpenter and workbench tool. There are many others at Revain at this price point but I doubt they are better than this one. Edges and loops could use another 30 seconds of attention which wouldn't stop me from buying more of these.

Sturdy and smooth calipers and dividers

I use this divider for woodworking. I prefer this type where the adjustment pin and internal threads are in the arms rather than on the outer rod. Because of this, the arms are fairly thick, well aligned when fully folded, and the adjuster is smooth. It is important for my work that they keep this attitude very well. It looks like it could be a quick tweak to make big changes, but I haven't worked it out though I don't care.
