The hips are great, but anything at the hips or waist can be BAD.

These would be fine but I sent them back due to insufficient hip protection. The hips are great, but anything at the hips or waist can be BAD. and I've had an accident where I've been hit hard in that area and I refuse to drive anything that doesn't give me full protection. For off-road MX will not work. but for lighter conditions like mountain biking etc they are fine.

Very well made and protective but very small

They are very, very well made and very protective. They really work very little. I'm tall and thin and I usually wear a size 31 or 32 pants and I ordered a medium size which usually fits well but they were VERY tight. I could barely put them on and cut off the circulation in my legs, tight lol. I sent them back and ordered the larger ones which I assume will fit. I still give them 5 stars despite the sizing issue simply because I was so impressed with the level of protection they offer. Just…

Low mileage, had to return. Do not close the top of the pool.

First, they were very small and (almost) too small to wear. Ordered a large for a 36" waist. At 6ft 3" and 210lbs I need at least XL maybe XXL. Also the top pad doesn't cover the top of the pool which is why I bought them. I snuck into them just to see if they do what I wanted but I don't think they will make it to the top unfortunately none of the photos show the actual body on it.

Good extra protection

Firm large panel covers all sides of thighs. The back completely covers the tailbone and more. Although the shorts are tight. Nice soft padding around the waist. Go a size 2 for a comfortable fit, not too tight. I wear a Loblo cup over these shorts for extra tank protection, but a regular football cup can be worn underneath these shorts. If you prefer rigid armor plates for the thighs then these are fine; If not, get the Leatt shorts with softer 3DO impact protection.

Great for mountain biking

I ride Black Diamond/Expert/Pro trails regularly and need extra protection. I decided to shell out the money when I fell and landed on my right thigh - I was limping for over a week. After getting the Alpinestars shorts I fell and landed on my hip 3 times (various surfaces of roots, mud and wooden planks) and felt nothing. I was able to get back on my bike and continue on my way. This is especially good when you're traveling with a clip and don't have time to unbuckle before landing on your…

Literally saved my ass.

It must have been fate. I received them and on my next ride a small tree fell in front of me and landed on the railing. It towered across the street. I didn't even have enough time to take a break and it left me exhausted. Punch me straight in the chest My bike kept moving. I broke through this thing with my body. First I landed squarely on my left knee, then slid down and touched my hip, shoulder, elbow, and my head bobbed a few times. I wore these shorts along with her knee pads and shin…
