Straight Deep Plunge Cutter

I had to make a stopped slot 1/4" wide and 1" deep for a pocket to insert the tab at the end of the pegboard . This #45210 Amana bit was the perfect size. I installed it on my router table to make a plunge cut with a start and stop unit to feed the workpiece through the cut. After making a few incremental cuts I was able to cut the grooves for a perfect fit. The drill is very sharp and very well made, high quality at a good price!

Pros
  • Shank (D) 1/4
Cons
  • Very Expensive

Bought 2 - Both quickly broke

Working on a CNC milling machine. I use a 45 degree bevel, only cut to a depth of .10, use a feed rate of 30 ipm and 20,000 rpm. The first one broke fairly quickly, but it cut a long line of pieces without a break and worked for about half an hour. The second bit broke on the second pass through the first part. Another brand also broke earlier. Cut scrap plywood, heavily weathered, for use in jigs. Hopefully when I switch to new plywood for my actual projects I won't encounter this breakage…

Pros
  • Diameter (D) 1/4
Cons
  • There are new competitors

Great for CNC work

I do some CNC work so I use a lot of quarter inch bits as that's one of the most common sizes. use. It's amazing how a stripped down $40 beat only lasts a couple of sessions and then wears off. Lately I've switched to 2 flutes instead of the standard up or down cut bits. This particular lure is instantly much hotter than some of the others I've tried, Timerline, Whiteside, CMT. SMT is one of the worst. A session that lasted several hours became somewhat blunt. I'm happy to report that this is…

Pros
  • Overall Length (L) 2-1/4
Cons
  • I'm writing back
