As far as changes go, I update core components from time to time so that when I buy a new device it will work with my existing setup. When moving from USB1 to 3.1, I replaced the cable with an external drive bay and scanner. These cables are backwards compatible, so I don't have to hunt for a USB 3 drive or unplug anything to swap out. I'm basically lazy. e. hit it. I purchased this USB-B cable to restore touchscreen functionality to the Acer T232HL monitor that my uncle gave me and to power the three USB ports on the left to supply.
