As with any specialty tool, basic skill and common sense is required. I bought this to replace the valve stem on a large Flotec air-injected well water storage tank. Even if it were convenient to dump and drain the tank, human arms aren't long enough to reach in and reach the valve stem from behind. Therefore, this tool is absolutely essential for this job. I would heed that warning unless you want to squander $30. While the instructions present it as easy to use, it can be difficult to use. I see it as a very special tool, perfect for very specific needs. The idea behind this product is very good and it is what you pay for - it greatly offsets the cost of replacing the valve stem in the shop. . I thought it was worth every dollar. I used liquid soap to insert the extractor and had to pull quite hard to pull the stem out (although there might be a trick to make it easier to pull out) but inserting the new valve (also with some liquid soap) went very smooth. I don't know why people are complaining about the puller. If you bend it you have to really try or push it against the edge of the rim instead of straightening it out. This is a thin rod or very thick wire. If it were much thicker it wouldn't fit through the valve hole in the rim. Don't pry, just push and pull at the right moment and everything will be perfect.
