This is a basic winch. Comes with a handle which is the only thing you need to install on the winch. Then you need to attach the winch to something solid. The crank works fine. It has a small locking mechanism, a simple little piece of metal with a tooth that slips into the gear to keep it from moving. It is sprint-bound, so it always falls back into lock mode. You must leave it open to unwind the cable. Mounting screws are not included, but holes are drilled for mounting.

This is a very good hand winch for ground work. I do not recommend it for marine (boat) applications as this winch uses uncoated steel wire and is made of steel. The whole thing will rust if care is not taken to dry it completely after each use. I have used steel winches for marine applications in the past and have never been able to avoid rusting, especially when using uncoated steel wire.
