Interesting features, but not for my use case.

I have a built in desk/bookcase and was looking for a replacement for my 720p webcam. I like Anker stuff so I gave this camera a try. A few notes: 1. The angle is such that when I place it on my monitor, the walls on the sides of my built-in desk are visible, as well as the shelf above the monitor. There is no right way to do this. In the software you can change the angle of view, but only a little, and I believe this is achieved with the digital zoom, so you no longer get a 1080.2 image. The…

Not much better than the built in camera

I bought three cameras: Logitech Brio, Anker C300 and Razor Kiyo Pro to compare. I only compared the video, not the microphone. Neither camera offers a significant improvement over the MacBook's built-in camera, which isn't a good place to start. (Nothing beats the iPhone or iPad Pro/Air cameras.) Let's start with the good: Anker's image sharpness and low-light capabilities are the best of any camera. It's the only camera that also works with a USB2 port, meaning you can use a cheap USB-C…

Video quality is great but cannot replace dedicated microphones

update 06/18/2021 Now that work from home is coming to an end, I have tested several different cameras in different lighting conditions at home and in the office. I've concluded that the Anker C300 offers excellent video quality at this price point, especially in low light conditions. The sound quality of the microphone is not outstanding, but the excellent video quality is well above five stars for this price range. I'll take a second one for my office. ---- Updated on 05/10/2021 after two…

This camera handles difficult lighting conditions well; either a dimly lit subject or a mix of light and dark areas in the image. This brightens and balances the lighting for a very beautiful subject. However, the FOV is too wide for a traditional webcam. At its widest setting (default), it covers a significantly larger area than any other webcam I've used at the same distance. Unfortunately, using it in the widest field of view is the only way to see 1080P resolution. Once you narrow (zoom in)

May have trouble focusing on specific firmware versions

EDIT: AnkerDirect have contacted me and will send a replacement. I will test the replacement unit and update this review if necessary. UPDATE: Replacement delivered. The replacement has NO focus issues and works great! However, the AnkerWork app is asking me to update the firmware. I did that with the original. Now I'm worried that if I update again, the updated firmware will contain a focus bug that affects my first Anker PowerConf C300. So I will never update the firmware. Looks a bit silly…

Really good update, room for improvement

**UPDATE in 3 weeks** Anker continues to release firmware and software updates. At this point I would say that the HDR function definitely affects the color quality. Much better with HDR on. But then why is it an option at all? Who decided to turn off best color rendering? There's still no way to manually scale and crop the image, which I've been wanting more and more. The solo frame feature was a major distraction in most meetings. If you lean forward, turn sideways, or whatever, the camera…
