It could be a great filter, but it's not just a replacement. After watching a really good Youtube video, my wife and I recorded it together. I've never had to "comb out" a filter, and a gentle touch is definitely needed (my wife's photo here) to keep it from ruining everything. For this reason I gave 4 stars. Basically I was satisfied with the quality.

My HVAC technician kindly showed me how to replace these filters. There's a frame, a couple of latches that need to be undone, and then you pop open the filter. It's pretty easy if you take the old one apart first and reverse it. Note - pay attention to the MERV rating for these filters. I've seen others that were cheaper and have a lower MERV rating, meaning you get fewer filters.

I like that this is a genuine Aprilaire product, but I didn't like that the packaging was torn in several places and sealed with tape. I knew the product would be damaged. Replacing this particular filter is very difficult. It's not the filter's fault, it's the design of the mount it's placed in. Plan two days for this. The filter housing will most likely need to be hosed down and left to dry overnight. Installing the filter can take up to an hour for a beginner - around 15 minutes if you've done it before.
