Wooden silencer works fine but I ordered a branded sediment. Works as advertised but protein skimmers don't work in fresh water so why put there? For the price it can certainly beat other skimmers that are much more expensive. No assembly required except rubber suction pads and air pump (not included). Suction cups hold, but stink. My saltwater fish (15) have experienced this smell before and it didn't bother them at all. I simply bleached rubber stockings for an hour before putting them on and washed them with rdo water.
