Poor exposure problem. Unpacked

There appears to be a fault on this board which is causing poor exposure. UPDATE: After learning how to set up and customize the camera using a Linux application called guvcview. I managed to get a usable image. The setting in Windows is most likely a w10 driver update which could potentially fix this.

Cons
  • There are problems

I was a little afraid to buy it as it had the only 1 star rating. However, Arducam does some pretty good stuff, so I had little to no reason to believe this product would be as terrible as the review suggested. After 2 minutes of assembly, I plugged the cable into my Windows 10 PC and opened the Windows camera tool. (not the ones they recommend - haven't tried it yet but looks like it has more control). It worked right away. Big! The product keeps what it promises. It includes some nylon…

This is a really cool idea. I wanted to upgrade the camera from a lower quality IMX179 based USB camera to a home made telecine (8mm film digitizer). This allows me to use the Raspberry HQ camera almost like a simple device without having to buy and learn a Raspberry Pi computer and make extensive modifications to my telecine. However, the image quality is excellent and the frame rate is as advertised. There are a few caveats with my Linux Mint 19.2 system. I'm using guvcview and it works…

Terrible white balance, poor auto exposure, limited control.

Auto white balance and exposure results in extremely dark and strange blue-green video. Even when I try to change these settings manually, I don't get anything that looks anywhere near as good as my cheap Logitech webcam, and I'm using the $50 lens that Arducam sells here, so I guess it does should not be the limiting factor. You can't manually change the camera's frame rate because each resolution has its own hard-coded frame rate that you must use, and higher resolution settings are extremely
