🖌️ U.S. Art Supply Black Gesso Acrylic Medium - 500ml Tub (16.9oz) | Quality & Quantity Review

I mostly use black gesso to restore canvases that children have drawn on but decided they liked what they drew didn't like. Instead of throwing away the canvas I use black gesso to cover up her unwanted paintings and then we use them to paint something else. White plaster is great for a new canvas, but doesn't cover up unwanted paintings very well. It's too clean.

I use black plaster to create a black background on my canvas as it makes the image more dynamic. I originally bought the Golden Black Gesso and almost sold out. I bought this gesso thinking that all gesso are the same but unfortunately they are not. If I apply a thin layer it becomes a deep anthracite grey. I would have to apply two or three coats to match Golden's black gesso.

I am sure the product is good but it arrived damaged. I think this is a packaging problem. There was no seal in the packaging and the plastic jar was cracked. I've never had problems like this before, so I'm blaming it on a new packer who needs more training. I was able to keep some in another jar. How do I request a refund or credit to my account?

For now I'll only give it a three. My first experience with this is that I can't get it to flatten out. I'm really very excited. I'll try that on a much larger canvas and give it another whirl. If I have the same experience or something similar, it gets a recommendation and a nightmare because it was a nightmare at the moment, but I'm willing to try it on a larger scale, with a different canvas and a different palette knife.

This product is very viscous! While this offers excellent coverage, strokes remain intact even when using soft brushes or sponge brushes. I was so disappointed that I invested in a more expensive brand. You get what you pay for Gesso! The charger pictured has 2 coats of this brand and has been sanded after each coat to try and remove brush marks. I am very disappointed in this. Having trouble finding Black Gesso in stores and can't find it anywhere, I'm giving this product a shot to see how it works. I've applied it to MDF and it has a good feel and finish. Good thing is that it is possible to send it abroad, I ordered a few units to Colombia and the canisters arrived in good condition, no breaks, no leaks. I cannot confirm the quality of this product because I cannot open the packaging. I've tried several solutions and it doesn't open. So I couldn't use it. I don't know why it was sealed so tightly but as a disabled artist I can't use products I can't even open. Maybe it's great quality, I have no idea. I'll have to wait for someone to actually open it.
