not very smooth - watercolor paper

is advertised as a premium paper but it doesn't have a very smooth surface. Yes, the grid lines are already drawn for the lettering, but if I had to repeat it, I'd use HP premium paper grade with light-box mesh on the underside. I hear my straight and slanted pen tip scratching the surface

No 55 degree ruler

I bought this paper because the insert on the cover shows 55 degree vertical guides and the image looks the same on the actual product. However, when I opened the notepad, I found that the lines could be 5 to 10 degrees from the square (e.g. 80 degrees). The image does not match the actual paper.

Paper not as advertised

do not buy if you plan to use a fountain pen or other calligraphy pens. If you only plan on using a chiseled marker, this paper might be for you. It's definitely terrible to use with a metal tip. Paper doesn't hold ink very well and will begin to fall apart if you wipe over one spot more than once. If you use a metal pen, it will get caught and tear the paper. Maybe they should just rename it Old Stationery.

This paper is complete crap.

It's not that fat, it has too many teeth and clogs up the feathers, the lines are WAY too dark and it bleeds like crazy. Anyone who thinks it's "perfect for beginners" is either getting paid for it or has ridiculously low expectations. I have standards for art supplies, and this crappy paper can't even be in the same race with him. I wouldn't even let the kindergarten kids play with him; I have more respect for their creativity. One of the review questions asked me if it was "easy to remove". I

Good paper with no leaks!

I recently decided to get into calligraphy to make my own birthday/Christmas cards. I googled a few options and finally settled on this paper (it definitely doesn't bleed as much as regular "printing paper"), the Speedball Calligraphy Ink Palette for ink, the Nikko Manga Pen N-Gpen, and the Tachikawa Comic Pen. Holder. They were recommended by several beginner sites, so I chose them. I think they all work great. I can say that this is a beginner's pen, it's a bit stiffer than I imaginedโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Easy to Use
Cons
  • Quick Start Guide

This paper is not suitable for calligraphy. The grid is very simple and only suitable for cursive calligraphy due to the slant. I've tried two different pointed nibs, the Leonardt Principal EF nib and the Brause nib, and both often caught on the paper - the nibs kept catching on bits of fiber and spattering the ink. I used Higgins Eternal Ink and my letters bleed through the ink and got a streak effect where the letters bled profusely. Overall there was a lot of seepage. I was veryโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Good inexpensive paper. . . But maybe not for beginners

I had to read the fine print carefully before buying this paper. I like the fact that it's large (9" x 12"). It has horizontal lines and slanting vertical lines. I gave it three stars because the paper is so light it bleeds quite a bit - enough to make practicing extremely messy unless you have a light hand or spend a lot of time shaping the letters. I think this article is perfect for those who have at least a few months of calligraphy experience behind them. For beginners like me who are just
