Working on ASRock

Despite all the hype surrounding the release of the B550 chipset, I bought this motherboard thinking it was a decent budget option with everything you need. Don't get me wrong, this thing worked. However, the RGB lighting from the I/O shroud and chipset stayed on even when the system was off, which really annoyed me when trying to sleep in my normally dark room. I tried disabling it with Polychrome but the program crashed my computer immediately. I tried contacting ASRock for support but the…

two defective circuit boards next to each other. Never Again

Build ordered I've been working on since Saturday. They should have gone with 3rd gen Ryzen chips right away. mail time. Switched RAM to a lower frequency, from 3200 to 2666, no dice, changed 3 power supplies to see if the power supply is bad, no dice, switched from 3rd gen chips to 2nd gen chips, no dice, first Gen tried, no dice. So I found it was the PCB, requested a replacement, came in two days later (before this check today), replaced the old one with a spare, same symptoms as the first…

RGB garbage on computers and accessories

The board works fine but Asrock needs to work on the RGB. First, the Polychrome software is a complete mess. Right now it just throws errors or crashes the computer so I can't control any RGB at all and the lights on the board stay on after you turn off the computer. I can't figure out how to turn it on off. Also, in hindsight, it's my fault for not doing my research, but apparently the Corsair Ram's lighting isn't supported by Asrock. I really don't want to send it back but it may have to be…

This is an amazing B550.

Lots of USB ports, plenty of SATA ports, 2 Nvme.2 slots (the second is SATA and disables 3456 ports), 1m2 key. It works out of the box, the chipset drivers are still a bit buggy due to a recent launch. I expect it will get better in a few months. There were a few RAM issues, but they're now fixed in the new BIOS update. Please select a RAM from the QVL list to avoid these problems. I had occasional crashes and windows corruption and found that the RAM was not compatible with each other when…

Good circuit board, best for computer components

Good build quality and features, but there are a few design issues and a few boot software issues (after repair). The local network was temporarily disconnected. and had to run the device through Windows to get it working again, which was fixed with a BIOS update a few months later. Recently I found that for some reason the second M.2 slot creates electrical noise when used in the front audio jack, resulting in annoying noises in the speakers or headsets connected to it if your hearing is good…
