Check your manual again

First examine any car diagnostic tool. Get one designed specifically for your make and model. I thought I had it and Revane tried to encourage me to buy a 16 pin device. My ports showed 16 pins. But the manual says to use port 32 in the engine section. So I needed a scanner cable.

Pros
  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • Some errors

Ideal for adapting to an OBDII scanner. Otherwise it's useless.

2000 BMW has both a round BMW connector under the hood and an OBDII connector under the dashboard. The worst of both worlds. Both are useless apart from some basic parameters that BMW doesn't even want to define, let alone which causes multiple error lights and codes. Great car. Terrible owner support.

Pros
  • A sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • You could choose a newer model

Works great with the right scanner

Works partially with my 1996 BMW E36 328i. So I find the adapter ok. However, you will need a scanner that can read all of the specific codes for your model. My Autopix 7810 scanner reads codes for BMW models 1998 and up. but I was able to read some codes with models like E46 and E39. Even I was able to reset airbag errors.

Pros
  • Solid construction
Cons
  • old

Worked great on my BMW 750il 96

. It works great and I can read and read codes. Instead of paying BMW over $2,000 to replace my intake gaskets like they said, I can now just replace the failed CPS sensor for $30. I'll be back on the road again soon without using my signals!

Pros
  • . That's great.
Cons
  • . Updates

Worked Best in Tools and Equipment

Unlike many OBD ADS adapters that are NOT properly connected, this one worked great. I bought another brand that was wired incorrectly and it took days to troubleshoot. Finally bought this adapter and was able to diagnose and program my 2001 E38 740i with no problems. As long as you have the software configured and running correctly, this adapter has worked great for me.

Pros
  • Stable Test Results

Great for 2000 and earlier BMWs

Helped me. I used it with a Creative C110 reader on my BMW E39 (2000 528i). This car has both an OBD-II socket in the cabin and a round 20-pin connector under the hood. From the standard connector under the dash I could only read the basic engine codes. With this adapter plugged under the hood I got a lot more diagnostic information and was able to reset the airbag light as well as some ABS codes left over from a previous repair. If you have a 20-pin connector under the hood, you'll need that…

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
