Easy to use; powerful

I bought the AL629 after failing with the cheaper AL319 which couldn't read seat belt and airbag codes. The AL629 is much better: sturdy, great manual, great carrying case and exceptionally easy to use. It was easy to read and reset the trouble code for a rare intermittent airbag sensor problem on a 2007 VW Beetle.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • The list will be long.

The tool is useless if no TF card is inserted

It cleared the engine warning lights and SRS dtc for my 2001 VW Beetle. I don't like backing up or updating software with a TF micro SD card, which should be removable media but isn't. It is part of the scan tools operating system that renders the scan tools unusable if not inserted. Very bad design, although I leave it. The ML629 version is exactly a clone of this part, but more expensive.

Great scanner. in code readers and scan tools

I had a 2008 Pontiac Torrent with the ABS, Stabilitrak and Traction Control warning lights on. Use this to find out which wheel had the problem. There was both a passenger and a passenger in the back. I was going to just replace the ABS sensors at first, but this scanner showed the amplitude for the sensors was below the minimum specs. So the hubs had to be swapped. Both hubs replaced (which came with new sensors) and ABS, Stabilitrak and Traction Control now work correctly. This thing saved me

Very disappointed with tools and hardware

The product description says the Autel AL629 can read both SRS and ABS codes. This scan tool will not read on two different vehicles. When trying to read the codes, it actually turned on the dash lights on my 2013 Nissan Frontier and changed the beep when the keys are in the ignition on a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country. Disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes fixed the crash it caused the Nissan, but the Chrysler problem persisted. It's kind of ironic that a tool bought to solve problems…

Disappointed. I will not scan my car's ABS modules.

I bought an Autel AL629 code reader specifically to scan ABS module codes on my 2007 Buick Lacrosse. Unfortunately it couldn't read them after I updated all the software on the scan tool via Autel's website. I then attempted to scan the ABS module codes on my 2006 Buick Rendezvous. No dice, I couldn't read them either. He was able to scan my 13 Honda Pilot's ABS module, so the tool worked. Not sure why it couldn't read the ABS modules on my GM vehicles but as that was the main reason I needed…

It works as advertised. Very good scanner for the price.

I needed a scanner to reset the SRS warning light/message on my 2009 Volvo XC90. They popped up suddenly as the tire change technician plugged in his TPMS scanner to check the sensors. He claimed it was just a coincidence and he couldn't fix it. Knowing how expensive it is to take the dealer or repair shop to clear these error messages, I decided to buy this scanner and do it myself. ABS/SRS faults are difficult to read and troubleshoot with inexpensive scanners, and Volvos are notoriously…

SRS reset tool

One of our cars had a frontal collision (2010 Chevy Malibu). After restoring the front (plastic parts ;)) we noticed that the SRS light was activated. 2 seat belts were put on. Upon removal, the passenger's seat belt was unlatched and looked serviceable. Brought the driver's side seat belt for repair. After receiving the repaired seat belt, I reinstalled it. The SRS light was still on. I didn't want to pay a mechanic to figure out what's causing the problem. Purchased the above item and…

The tool every home mechanic needs

I was looking for a tool to clean the SRS indicator light that came on when I removed the seats for a thorough cleaning. There are pressure sensor and seat belt connectors under the seat, and disconnecting either of these while the main battery is connected will trigger the SRS warning light on the instrument cluster. Unlike cheaper models, this device reads my VIN automatically, which is great as it takes away the hassle of typing it in with the arrow keys every time. This device found stored…

Useless Toy Best in Tools & Equipment Category

Autel AL629 is totally useless and this production description is totally misleading. Says it covers almost all cars? Well it's a joke. Check out the KIA coverage. Kia Soul 2014 Nope. This is exactly why the Soul model is in the database after 2011! If you look at other KIA models, they also have poor coverage. And yes, I did updates with Autel software. And I called Autel and although the support was provided by US officials, two different guys were no help. Finally the second guy found a…
